Babydoll Sheep

John Ellman standardized the Southdown sheep in 1780. After WWII the popularity of the small sheep declined due to demands of larger sheep with larger cuts of meat. Southdowns came to the US in 1830 and were bred larger and larger to become the modern Southdowns of today. In 1986 Mr. Robert Mock began searching for the original sized Southdowns in the hopes of re-establishing the breed. Babydoll Southdowns are now very popular-with very good reason!!
Babydoll sheep are small-24 inches or less at the shoulder.Their small size makes them easier to handle-and extra cute!!
Babydolls are covered with wool. Their faces are very distinctive because of their teddy bear faces. Their wide muzzles give them the appearance of a smiley face!!
Babydoll sheep today are used for, pets, weedeaters, companions to other animals and fiber flocks. They tame down easily and are wonderful small pets for children or the elderly.
Babydolls are great for cleaning out brush and weedy overgrown areas. Their wool is very soft and easy to spin.
